Africa is the 2nd largest continent in the world. It is also the 2nd most populous continent with an estimated population of 1.4bn people, according to the UN. The African economy relies heavily on agriculture and there are 41 currencies in use in Africa across its 54 countries.
In this article, the spotlight is on 5 African currencies.
1. Cedis (GHS): the official currency of the Republic of Ghana🇬🇭
Denominations: 1, 10, 20 & 50 pesewas (coins) and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 & 200 cedis.
Ghana is a beautiful west African country on the Gulf of Guinea. It was the first African country south of the Sahara to gain independence from colonial rule. The official language is English, but there are other regional languages — majorly Twi and Ga.
The capital is Accra and the country is bordered by Burkina Faso, Togo, Ivory Cost, and the Atlantic Ocean. It is home to one of the largest artificial lakes in the world — Lake Volta.
