Goals. Aspirations. Do better. Be better.

At the turn of a new year, many people make some form of resolution or another. Some of the people who don’t make lists of things they want to achieve and related matters. There’s of course, those who don’t do any such thing and take the days as they come. I sometimes envy them.

Around this time, the middle of the year, people typically take stock. Even if you don’t want to, tweets and other social media posts will not let you so you find yourself checking how much progress you’ve made with whatever you decided to do in January.

The list of things I wanted to do this year was quite short. Graduate. Write. Take photos. Move to a new city. Find a nice job. Read. Travel once or twice. I was not going to set myself up so I had to keep it basic and simple.

When I started my Masters last year, I was a girl on a mission. I only had one goal: to not fail any course. To achieve that, I was going to attend as many classes and seminars as possible, start my assignments early and study way ahead of the exams.

Not being one to set my sights too high, I was pretty comfortable but when the results were released and I had a good number of Bs, I wondered if I could have set a higher goal, or perhaps, applied myself a bit more, but what is…
